heart of the West Midlands, England - the second most populous city behind
London. Birmingham City Council (2012) state to have transformed the city with developments
including Bullring Shopping Centre, The Mailbox, New Street Train Station and
The Cube and is now modern and ideal for youngsters!
Education
If you are looking to get a good education, then Birmingham’s three
universities and two university colleges make it one of the most desirable places to live with the largest centre of higher
education in the UK. Including the University of Birmingham, Aston University,
Newman University College, Birmingham School of Acting and the Birmingham
Institute of Art and Design, as listed by Visit Birmingham (2012), who state “Birmingham
is a student city: 65,000 students.” 65,000 students means its the city that never really sleeps!

(2012) state “The Library of Birmingham
will set new standards for libraries in the 21st century, creating an
exceptional resource for learning. The new £188.8m Library of
Birmingham will open to the public in September 2013”.

Night Life
Obviously, being a student hot spot, its not all work and no play! Birmingham has a great nightlife and Nightlife Birmingham
(2012) indicate Birmingham offers a wide range of bars/clubs; “popular hot spots
are along Broad Street, Brindley Place, The Acardian and The Mailbox. National
clubs Gatecrasher, Walk-About, Revolution and VIP hotspot Mechu are just a few
nightspots. To get cheap entrance to the hottest spots in the city, visit your uni freshers team for vouchers, or hit the town on a Monday for half price entrance and a free shot at Gatecrasher and Walk-About for all students and socials.

Entertainment
Not looking for the nearest party and need a place to get away from all of the studying? With over 8,000 acres of
parkland in Birmingham and Sutton Park - the largest urban nature reserve in
Europe, is an ideal situation to escape the city life and chill out.

find eight city cinemas with the largest screen in the Midlands at Millenium
Point. Numerous regional radio stations including Free, Capital, Heart and
Kerrang are Birmingham based which are good for club, chart and rock music, something to suit everyone and also offer lots of

Cricket, AEGON Tennis Championships, Horse of the Year Show and Aviva Athletics

Birmingham host a German
Christmas market and Birmingham City Council (2012) find it is “the largest
outdoor Christmas market in the country”, very festive and a fun night out with all your friends.

One of the biggest state-of-the-art
shopping centres in the country is situated within the city being the Bullring.

After ending your student life in Birmingham, its not the end of the line, you can build your future in this city with Business
Birmingham (2012) finding Birmingham’s new economic zones are expected to bring
£1.5 billion into the city and generate nearly 50,000 jobs by creating the
right environment for enterprise.” Employment areas include “business &
professional services; creative & digital media; advanced manufacturing;
life sciences; food & drink; and IT, electronics & communications…”

Transport
Birmingham is set in an easily accessible location with major connecting
roads, known as Spaghetti Junction making it easy to get anywhere in the
country for commuters, students and visiting families! Birmingham City Council (2012) ensures buses, taxis and
trains frequently run through the city at peak times, the city council run a
cycling route for anyone to jump on.
Birmingham Airport is located six miles from the city centre, making it
an ideal location for foreign students.
